Hello, I’m Calle (pronounced Cal - like California - Lee). I’m a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist living in the central Sierra Nevada foothills with my spouse of 44 years. I’ve raised two adult sons that gifted me with three precious and very active grandchildren.

My Approach

Clients say they feel comfortable with me, often as early as the first session. They find me understanding, compassionate, and gentle. Encouragement is a goal of every therapy session. As one client states, “Calle is a mix of modern times, the good ole days, and a sprinkle of heaven.”

In concert with IFS,  my approach is non-pathologizing and client-centered. As is true for anyone, when I feel hurt, troubled, angry, or confused, I want someone to listen to me with no judgment. I want to be met with authenticity and empathy, not pity. I want unconditional positive regard and to be understood for the choices I’ve made and the reasons I’ve made them. And I want someone who will help me grow and help me transform the burdens I carry that cause suffering. Naturally, I want to give my clients the same.

I’m particularly interested in helping women become solid independent individuals who can bring their best selves to other relationships. This often means exploring and gaining boundary and communication skills, improving self-esteem, and increasing awareness of the relationship between safety and vulnerability.

I’ve had my share of personal losses and feel a bond with others who have gone through the death of someone close to them. Grieving is a unique process that can leave us feeling devastated and unable to continue without our loved one. Internal Family Systems can help bring back our sense of Self and direction after significant losses.

I love helping people struggling with spiritual issues with questions about faith and how their faith impacts their own lives and the lives of people around them.

My Journey

My professional focus has been in treating adults, couples, and families struggling with relationship challenges. Through my studies of various trauma treatments, a common thread has been the efficacy of IFS for improving the lives of traumatized people. I am drawn to the non-pathologizing stance of Internal Family Systems - that it is client-directed and respectful of the client’s inner and outer lives. I have been helped personally by developing relationships with my parts and understanding their development and healing throughout my life. Understanding that my parts are devoted to my wellbeing and protection gives me a vastly different view of their unique behaviors!

I’ve also worked in elementary school settings helping students navigate relationships with peers and classmates. Before becoming a counselor, I volunteered for six years advocating for teen girls and women facing pregnancy and parenting decisions. Then, for ten years, I organized and led 20-30 high-school and college students to Central American countries, working with local communities to improve housing and education.

About Me

In my free time, I enjoy hiking and backpacking in the mountains, particularly in Yosemite National Park. The beauty and majesty of nature are a balm to my soul. I also enjoy reading a good adventure book, flower and vegetable gardening, and baking bread. My favorite day of the week is Friday, when I have the privilege of spending the entire day with my grandchildren: swinging, biking, and adventuring about our 5 acres.
