Do what you love, and you’ll never work again.

This saying is especially true for IFS therapists who enjoy this creative and liberating approach, where there’s less pressure to be the expert with all the answers and more reliance on the client’s own innate wisdom. Trained IFS therapists deeply trust the process because they’ve experienced firsthand the transformative power of the model, and bring renewed confidence and compassion to their clinical work.

IFS is the antidote to therapeutic burnout, where the therapist collaborates with a client’s whole being and trusts that down deep, everyone makes sense and answers can be found within.  Even impasses are used as opportunities for mutual growth.   Imagine the difference it would make to expend less effort and to feel more refreshed working with clients.  Receiving IFS therapy for your own “therapist parts” could be an empowering first step.

Is IFS Therapy right for me?

Directly experiencing the IFS model is one of the best ways to learn it – from the inside.  And while each client’s process may vary, IFS allows enough flexibility for it  to unfold naturally, often with minimal intervention by the therapist.

Therapists who engage in IFS therapy for themselves often report feeling more refreshed and nourished when they are with their own clients, and greater awareness of how to return to this kind of resonance when something feels off.

If you’re a therapist, do parts of you get stuck:

  • Directing

  • Controlling

  • Fixing

  • Overly assuming responsibility

  • Rationalizing

  • Worrying

  • Problem solving

  • Analyzing

  • Caretaking

  • Rescuing

  • Persuading

  • Advising

IFS is elegant and intuitive… and it takes practice. It also requires deeply knowing your own inner world.

If you’ve been studying IFS and are having trouble going deeper, or if you need support while going through the training, we’re here to help you find your way. All of our clinicians are fully trained and receive on-going consultation by two experienced lead trainers, with direct experience welcoming “therapist parts” that can help or hinder the healing process. Becoming more intimately acquainted with your own inner world will help release constraints to your own Self leadership, personally and professionally.

Imagine letting go of the need to figure out what your clients are feeling and the pressure to provide the right interpretation.  Instead, consider what it would be like to really trust your client’s inner wisdom and ability to deeply heal.

IFS is an evidence-based approach, and yet there is a shift from the stress of traditional outcome-based psychotherapy, and instead more reliance on a Self-led  therapeutic relationship.   As developer of IFS,  Richard Schwartz PhD. writes,

“When I can be deeply present to my clients from the core of my being, free from anxiety about how I’m doing, or who’s in control of the therapy, or whether the client is following the correct therapeutic agenda, clients respond as if the resonance of my Self were a tuning fork that awakens their own. It’s this deep, true, and faithful presence of the therapist – without portfolio or baggage – that every client yearns to connect with.”

How will being a client make a difference since I’m already doing parts work on my own?

Working with parts on your own is a meaningful practice, though it can be hard to navigate the inner terrain without a trusted guide - one whose patience and perspective will assist with any parts that obscure or distract.    The experience of working with a skilled IFS therapist expands your field of awareness and compassion, creating a safe container for deep healing.

IFS therapy recognizes many layers of relationships potentially occurring within and between client and therapist alike.  Each person contains any number of parts that may show up to help or hinder the therapeutic process.  Each person also contains a wise  Self that, when accessed by both people, creates a relational resonance that provides the richest source for healing.
