Hi and welcome! My name is Jorge, my pronouns are he/him/his. I am glad you have found your way here! The process of therapy has been incredibly beneficial to me in my personal life, and it is my sincere wish that it will be the same to you. I wholeheartedly believe in therapy’s transformative power to alleviate suffering and increase one’s quality of life. Finding the right therapist for you should be at the forefront of your mind at this time. I hope this page can give you an idea of my personality, my training and approach, and hopefully it can help you gauge whether I could be the right fit for you.

My Approach

My approach is conversational, down-to-earth, and compassionate. My goal is to create with my clients an environment where they experience a felt sense of safety and trust. A place where they can bring their most authentic Self, and their most vulnerable parts. In IFS we usually say that all parts are welcome, and we live it. You should find this to be true in my space as well.

During our sessions, you may experience me as kind, curious, and humorous. I may also show up warmly direct and CAREfrontational – a quality of confrontation based on compassion and genuine caring. At all times, I show up with honesty, authenticity, integrity, and utmost respect for my clients and all their parts.

My Journey

Therapy has been present in my life for many years on and off as a client through my teens, and again as an adult. Therapy has been immensely beneficial to me and I have developed a passion for the work. It led me to changing careers and becoming a therapist myself.

I came to IFS after attending a trauma conference in 2018. I was immediately drawn to the model and immersed myself in it by reading anything I could find on IFS, attending workshops and trying to apply it with my clients. Completing Level-1 training, and the IFS Circle represent a milestone in my journey.  Intensive IFS training has provided me with a deeper understanding of the model and how to apply it safely and effectively. In addition to that, Level-1 training gave me firsthand experience with my own internal system. Witnessing my own internal parts and their relationship was a major shift for me. Once you see your own internal system, it is hard to unsee it. IFS has been transformational for me, my practice and how I see people in general. I am passionate about this approach, and hope I get to share and explore it with you.

Specialities

Due to my immigration experience – the process of learning a new language, a new culture and adapting to a new reality and social context – I have personal and professional experience with issues arising from the impact of immigration. I have worked with first-generation immigrants, as well as second-generation as they navigate this often complicated intersection between culture, identity and mental health.

I also have experience working with members of the LGBTQ community, people questioning gender, sexuality and identity.

I often work with life transitions, anxiety, depression and the aftermath of traumatic experiences.

Spirituality, mindfulness and meditation are also elements that can be explored if that is something you value or are interested in.

About Me

I am Brazilian-American and grew up in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil until my early twenties when I moved to California. I am bilingual in English and Portuguese.  The immigration experience has widened my perspective and made me more culturally sensitive and respectfully curious about other people’s experiences.

I am warm, kind, caring, compassionate and humorous. I have multiple passions and interests and in a way they all find their way to my therapy practice. In my spare time, you will find me playing classical and Brazilian guitar, hiking, spending time at the beach, photography, watching documentaries, reading, and connecting with friends.

I have a dedicated meditation and mindfulness practice that is mostly informed by Buddhist practices
