Welcome! It’s so nice to have you here. My name is Lauren (she/her), I am a New York–based, Licensed Social Worker (LMSW). I view therapy as deeply relational work and encourage you to scroll through to see if we would be a good fit.
My Approach
My practice is grounded in compassion, curiosity, and emotional safety. Engaging in therapy is a beautiful and courageous process, and I hold great reverence for those who are considering this path. I view this work as a collaboration and one that is reflective of the unique experiences of each individual. I hold space for humor and creativity to be a part of the therapeutic process as catalysts for deeper understanding and tools for tending to the unique needs of our internal parts.
My practice is rooted in social justice and informed by an anti-oppressive lens. It incorporates and examines the role of interpersonal relationships, physical environments, and societal systems. I have considerable experience working with survivors of intimate partner violence and gender-based violence, as well as other forms of acute and/or complex trauma, loss, anxiety, and depression. I support individuals in exploring aspects of their identity including: gender and sexuality, power and privilege, oppression, body image, family structures, and legacies.
My Journey
Prior to becoming a social worker, I worked in a number of non-profit organizations supporting children in foster care, young people involved in the criminal legal system, and women who had experienced incarceration. These were formative in my desire to learn about the impact of trauma, but also shaped my beliefs in the power of human resilience.
My post-graduate training and clinical practice focused on the impact of childhood trauma and has expanded to encompass the impact of trauma throughout the life cycle. In addition to my trauma training, I am rostered in Child-Parent Psychotherapy (CPP), which continues to inform my practice around the transformational impact of community and the role of meaning making in the healing process.
The IFS model has changed both my relationship with myself and my practice. I have had the privilege of experiencing and witnessing the emotional spaciousness, self-compassion, and integration of mind and body that is offered by this model. So much can shift when we are able to view our parts with authentic care and understanding. My sessions seek to promote an integrative experience through the incorporation of breathwork, mindfulness, and movement.
About Me
Off screen you can find me knitting, listening to music, being a plant parent, running, biking, and being in community with friends, family, and food. I love the sun and salt water, and struggle through New York winters in order to bask in the summer bliss.
I look forward to meeting with you!
I’d love to help you.
